End of Year review Part Two: First Grade Fiesta

Last week was the STAAR test here in Texas.  While I was testing seventh graders, my first graders begun a review of all of the first grade math standards.  Last week, we primarily worked on our geometry and measurement reviews.  These are skills that my students have pretty much down and could review with little guided work -- an excellent sub plan!  To see what we did last week visit this post.

This week we continued our end of year review by digging deeper into the operations and algebraic thinking standards.   We began our review in small group time by reviewing all of the concepts in the standards.  I meet with students that are grouped by their progress in meeting the standards.  My groups are fluid throughout the year and based on data that I track weekly. For more on how I track my data see this post.

Relating addition and subtraction (CCSS 1.OA.4)

Fact families (CCSS 1.OA.4)

Balancing addition and subtraction, true or false (CCSS 1.OA.7)

Subtraction within twenty. (CCSS 1.OA.5)

Addition within twenty. (CCSS 1.OA.5)

While I am working with students in small groups, the rest of my class is doing independent practice, computer math and math centers:

Write the addition facts another way. (CCSS 1.OA.3)

Fact families (CCSS 1.OA.4)

Fact familie (CCSS 1.OA?4)

Addition within twenty (CCSS 1.OA.5)

Addition within twenty (CCSS 1.OA.5)

Subtraction within twenty (CCSS 1.OA.5)

Relating addition and subtraction (CCSS 1.OA.4)

Related facts (CCSS 1.OA.4)

Some of my student still need a bit of extra guided practice and also use manipulatives.

Last year, I created First a Grade Fiesta End of Year Math Review for my May review.  It is based on the four strands of the Common Core State Standards for math in first grade.

These four units are all bundled together for ease of use.  This is the second year that have used this review in my classroom.

Check back next week to see how I use the rest of the review.  I will also highlight how to help alleviate the summer slide!

Have a great week!
